And I actually really liked Yappie because I felt like it was an open-ended open discussion that was bringing issues that the Asian American community faces. Archived from on 31 March 2012. The Wongs showed no interest in adapting — works which other studios often adapted — instead focusing on modern stories.

This is to encourage the exchange of ideas between us, rather than merely commenting on the world around us. However, bashing idiots is okay. I was also very excited when Wong fu brothers announced Asian Bachelorette. Everyone should watch the first one and then make the second one a success as well. The guy on that show ''Andrew'' is the biggest loser I have ever seen playing the protagonist wong fu brothers a show. He gets told a bunch of racist shit by some black dude, and than the next scene he is sitting hunched over saying that asians should be nicer to black people and basically putting the fault that he was racist on him. And it painted the white dude who fetishizes asian women in a good light. The whole thing was too on the nose. Literally everyone else was a more natural actor than he was. Wong fu brothers should stick to production. I think you sort of missing the conversation that happened in the scene. It's about a blackan who misplaced his resentment toward the injustice that society inflicted upon him toward an Asian man. Asian is known to be enjoying far more previleges than black do in a white world. And so wong fu brothers black man blamed him, reusing to recognize the nauced discrimination that Asians face as shown throughout the show. I suppose Andrew simply recognize the disparity and so the hunching over scene. He's clueless of the world, concerns of nothing but himself, his job, his car, etc. Andrew also dated a black girl, it was painted in a different light. As for the white guy who fetishise Asian woman, which one are you talking about. Maybe I posted this on the wrong sub. I want what's best of my fellow Asian brothers. And I actually really liked Yappie because I felt like it was an open-ended open discussion that was bringing issues that the Asian American community faces. I actually made a post about Yappie yesterday because I just started and finished watching it and really loved it. Also, I unsubbed from this sub because after a while, it didn't feel like a safe place anymore. I still feel like parts of this sub are very toxic. Butthurt sounds like butthurt, no matter what ones' ethnicity. I felt more depressed being on here than I got anything really beneficial from it. I feel like some guys on here complain about their situation and I'm like telling myself that nothing better is going to happen to them if they can't change their mindset. It makes me frustrated because I want to help other Asian guys and I also want to grow, but if people keep complaining and getting mad about their situation, there will be no real substantive solution. I keep coming back here because I stumble upon things that relate to this sub and want to help. Thanks for the honest thoughts. I'm slowly learning the sentiment of this sub as well. The general feeling is that this is a place for Asian men to lament about their lacking due to the white man holding them down. Maybe I live an ignorant life and I don't see what they see. I do find it a bit funny that this place isn't about celebration of Asian guys as much as how do I get as good as the white guy. I'll just occasionally share things that I think Asian folks would share in common. They all called him out on it. He definitely has yellow fever and just clueless about it. It take a whole group of Asians to point out to him. What would you recommend the appropriate light to paint that scene as. What actions should have been taken aside from pointing out that the white guy has Asian fever. The white dude felt bad about it and insensitively set up the date white girl as if wong fu brothers girls were trading cards. I have a few white friends and that seems pretty typical to me. I can see one of them being just as clueless. What would the total white dude in that situation do on real life in your opinion. What would the total white dude in that situation do on real life in your opinion. Not talk about self-hate and say lines like ''oh, its my stupid white guilt again'' and lines about him feeling like a colonizer taking advantage of his white privilege. What white dude with yellow fever talks like that dude, it would be more realistic and impactful for him to totally dismiss it and say something like ''hes just jealous that white guys get all the asian chicks amirite. I am calling you out as passive agressive. To be direct, you can respond directly to my comment. No need to respond to a sub comment about the original comment. If you do think I'm shallow or lack depth on what I think or say, state it in direct reply to my comment instead of piggy back by reply to someone else's comment to say so and I'll address you as needed. The viral success of the first Asian Wong fu brothers attracted not just Asian American but also got some mainstream media attention: Huffpost: Cosmopolitan. Comedy like wong fu brothers Wong Fu produces is a great way to do this. Just saw the second Asian bachelorette. I thought the first one was funny and entertaining and painted us in an overall good light. But the second was pretty cheesy and used a lot of stereotypes to try to get a laugh from the audience. I could now see why people on here are on both sides of coin with WongFu Productions. They seem to be aware of the challenges we face but at the same time somewhat complicit with the establishment.

Mariko Tokioka knew exactly what she wanted to do after her previous company. And I actually really liked Yappie because I felt like it was an open-ended open discussion that was bringing issues that the Asian American community faces. By 1939, the brothers owned a chain of 139 cinemas across the region; the chain would later include Singapore's first air-conditioned cinema, at. Mai Ken does not follow the advice of Huang, and finds himself up against a thug, Lin Tien-Tao, who wounds him in their match at the tournament. With a nearly all-Asian cast, some of its stars include , , , , , and. As kids we would come visit our cousin in Monterey Park and experience this unique Asian American fusion lifestyle. This was followed in 1931 by several films, including the brothers' first talkie Indonesia in a Depression , an unsuccessful comedy produced with M. He reportedly received small parts on the crew, working with cables and electricity. In 1929 the brothers worked with Batavia Motion Pictures to produce the Chinese-oriented bandit film , which was fairly well received. The trio met at the in 2004 and produced a number of music videos and short films released on their website and later YouTube before establishing a professional media company, Sketchbook Media, after their graduation.
